Being Your Own Biggest Fan
Do you ever think about how you talk to yourself on the daily? If you feel like your constantly being hard on yourself, you’re not alone. I have a bad habit of doing this myself—when my apartment is a mess, I wake up later than I wanted to, or don’t finish everything that I set out to do that day. Sometimes a bad day has the ability to shift me completely off balance. But I also know that enough negative thoughts become poor beliefs, at some point—just like that saying, you are what you eat, you certainly are what you think. Bad thoughts can take more of a toll on your mind than you can even imagine, and how much better would you feel if you told yourself instead that you are beautiful, strong, productive, and good enough, and showed yourself a little bit of grace in the moments that feel just a little more chaotic or upsetting. I know what you’re thinking, and it’s not easy. I’m starting to celebrate small victories, stay present in the moment and enjoy every part of the journey. Life isn’t always perfect and it doesn’t have to be, and that’s saying a lot coming from a perfectionist. I wrote these words to myself a few weeks ago, but the more I read them, the more they resonate—maybe they’ll resonate with you too.
I am so damn proud of you, and I don’t give you the credit that you deserve for waking up every day and taking care of yourself. You are in touch with every feeling from the moment that you open your eyes in the morning until you close them at night. You have spent so much time with your feelings and stepping into your power. You show up as your most authentic self, even if you are not complete yet. You know yourself inside out at 27—when some people don’t ever know themselves as deeply as you do. You are more than just here, you are present and you are living. You are breathing deeply when you need to and taking time for yourself when you know you need to. You enjoy the little things in life, while always dreaming of more. You are a representation of boundless love. You are endless light. You are guided because you are open to receiving it. You are powerful because you are grateful. You are strong because you know your weaknesses. You are already so much more than you ever even knew that you were capable of.
Hold onto yourself tighter on the days that you forget these things and know that you are whole, that you are enough, that you are everything.
Read that again. I honestly get chills when I say those words out loud to myself, because I truly believe them so deeply, even on bad days, even when I feel stuck, even when I feel like I’m not doing enough—because it happens, but I won’t let it shift my world forever. Everything is temporary, but the mind that you build is forever.
What are you proud of yourself for?
