Solo Road Trippin’
Since first moving to Indiana, and now living in Minnesota, I have taken my fair share of 5-6 hour road trips home and to places like Nashville, TN. At this point the time flies by in comparison to what it felt like when I made that first trek with my sister. Don’t get me wrong, road trips are way more fun with someone else, or a group of people, in the car with you—especially when you’re not the one having to drive the entire distance—but when you have to buckle down and drive by yourself, here are some things to get you through.

Snacks On Snacks On Snacks
First things first, FOOD. I always pack my own snacks so that I don’t have to stop for food on the way. As you can imagine, I like to be in the car for as little time as possible, and stopping for gas and to use the bathroom automatically adds a few minutes each way. Plus, eating a buffalo chicken wrap from Trader Joe’s is healthier than a burger and cheese curds, even with the amount of other treats I bring with me. Although, eating straight through can be dangerous, I’d recommend pairing it with another recommendation below.
Hit Play
I have tons of playlists—more coming soon!—and I’ve been curating a road trip specific playlist with all of the songs you can’t help but sing-a-long to, and that make you want to dance to, or drum solo on your steering wheel. Just remember to keep one hand on the wheel at all times.
Call A Friend
Five plus hours on the road can get a little lonely, and my solo performances only last so long—sometimes the entire trip, but we don’t need to get into that. After I pack up, stop at Starbucks and hit the road, I call a close friend that I haven’t talked to in a while. When in doubt, I just start calling my favorites—you know who you are. Because talking to someone passes the time much quicker than anything else, besides jamming out to a live concert album.
Plug Into A Podcast
When I’m in the mood to just listen, I love catching up with podcasts. I’ve been on an Almost30 kick these days, and since I only found them a few months ago, I have a lot of episodes to choose from. Listening to the Ask Us Anything episodes are definitely the most entertaining, but I also just finished Episode 425. Astrology for the Collective Awakening with David Palmer and it was so good. Another one, Real Girl Series, makes me feel like I have friends in the car with me. And then there are true crime podcasts, like To Live and Die in LA—the second season just dropped and I am pumped. Oh and last one, sometimes I put on Super Soul Conversations, I usually listen to those on a day-to-day but it depends on what kind of mood I’m in. Linked for you to check those out!
