Daily Reminder: Drink More Water

Being stuck in the house for the past few weeks has definitely taken a toll on how consistently I'm drinking water. That, and eating everything in my refrigerator, has had some negative effects on my body and skin. It has definitely contributed to how sluggish I feel some mornings, having headaches, increased muscle soreness and unclear skin. In an attempt to combat some of these things, and with warmer weather approaching, including more water in my daily diet is essential. Thankfully, I already exclusively drink water- with the exception of copious amounts of coffee and the occasional Diet Coke- so it isn't hard to add some fruits and herbs, especially when it tastes this good. For an added bonus, I love doing this with sparkling water... who doesn't love a little fizz?

BERRIES

Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries

Packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, adding berries can have many benefits, from fresh looking skin to reducing your risk of disease. Berries also have anti-inflammatory properties, so it's an ideal post-workout drink! They are also super high in fiber, which slows food moving through your digestive tract- making you feel full for longer, which means eating less often!

CITRUS FRUITS

Grapefruits, Oranges, Lemons, Limes

Citrus fruits are the most popular to put in water, not only because they taste good; they are also rich in vitamin C and contain tons of other antioxidants that aid in immune support. They have been shown to help subsequently improve heart health by increasing the healthy cholesterol in your body, and protect your brain from neurocognitive diseases that are caused in-part by inflammation.

HERBS

Mint, Basil

This might seem a little strange for some, but herbs also have great benefits and add extra flavor without more sugar. Mint is my favorite of the two, containing a natural compound that relaxes intestinal spasms and relieves headaches. Mint also is high in antioxidants, decreases bloating and promotes digestion. On the other hand, basil's effects are similar to citrus fruits, in that it helps boost immunity and fight infections by stopping the growth of bacteria and yeast inside of your body. It might even decrease anxiety.
